Celebrating 250 Episodes of Girl Boner Radio!

January 9, 2019

“What if I pee on this chair?”

That was one of my thoughts as I sat down at the mic to record my very first episode of Girl Boner Radio five years ago.

I was so nervous that even though I had only one tech responsibility—pushing a single button—I had a friend join me to take care of it. Because what if I screwed that up?

Then something pretty sweet happened. As soon as the intro music finished and the episode began, my butterflies settled. They weren’t gone, but they definitely weren’t spastic. I felt focused, peaceful and as though I’d like to stay there for, well…ever.

This experience matches up with a mantra I created when I launched Girl Boner on my blog the year prior: Passion speaks louder than nerves. That day I learned that passion also soothes them. If we let nervousness keep us from taking action or risks, we might lose out on rewards we haven’t even fathomed yet.

(Thank you for the graphic, Sarah Fader!)

I should mention that I was pretty ill-prepared for what would happen after that first episode, by many people’s standards. I broke a slew of guidelines I didn’t even know existed, from “you should record x-number of episodes pre-release” to practicing my live interview skills. Yet somehow, I’m still at it and loving the experience, every single time.

I’m not suggesting that everyone should fly by the seat of their pants or that there’s nothing I wish I would have done differently along the way. But I do think there’s tremendous value in trusting passion as our ultimate compass.

Passion doesn’t need to be earthshaking, by the way. Sometimes it’s a flicker, and just enough to ignite a small flame. Other times it feels more like curiosity, a butterfly-sy what if. What matters isn’t that we know the details or that it’s grandiose, but that we listen to it. Take it from my dog, Via, who lets very little hold her back. (You’ll learn more about this photo in the episode below. :))

In celebration of five years and 250 episodes of Girl Boner Radio, I’m excited to share an extra special episode!

It features some of the show’s most memorable moments and guests, including TV stars, comedians, educators, survivors and—I’m not kidding—a ghost. I also shared notable sex ed stories, empowering sex and pleasure tips, and a bonus clip from Gabe, who was my audio engineer for the first four years. I’m so grateful to him and to Makenzie, my current engineer, for their tech magic, and to every single guest and listener. I truly can’t thank you all enough. ❤︎
