Orgasmic Yoga: A Sensual Spin on Self-Love

May 16, 2016

When sexologist Dr. Martha Tara Lee told me her preferred topic for our Girl Boner® chat was orgasmic yoga, I pictured a room full of people, some moaning as they stretched into cobra, others enjoying some downward doggy-style. As fun as that might be, I wasn’t even close.

Martha described orgasmic yoga, which was coined by her teacher Dr. Joseph Kramer, as “a suggestion of masturbating for 30 minutes, and for a recommended duration of 30 days.”

And because yoga means practice, it’s an orgasmic practice that actually has less to do with climaxing and more to do with sensation, pleasure and awareness.

While 30 minutes of solo play daily seems daunting to many people, those who commit to the practice report mighty perks. Over time, it becomes meditative and may even facilitate emotional healing from past wounds, shame around sex and sexuality and more.

“I refer to it as a very deep practice of self-love,” she said. “If we take that time each day to just see as a place where we come to meet our bodies and love ourselves, it’s a very different experience than masturbating to get off. It’s really very profound.”

To learn more about orgasmic yoga, how it’s changed Martha’s life, plus tips for celebrating Masturbation Month (all May long, loves!), listen the our chat on iTunes or below. You’ll also hear Dr. Megan’s thoughts for a listener who only reaches orgasm with ease on her own, but never with her partner. Loved her advice!

Hungry for more? Check out Martha’s book, Orgasmic Yoga: Masturbation, Meditation and Everything In Between. To stay in her loop, follow her on Twitter @drmarthalee and sign up for her sex tips newsletter.

Psst! To add the fun of toys, lube and more to your solo sessions, I highly recommend shopping at The Pleasure Chest.

I’d love to hear from you! Have you tried orgasmic yoga? Would you? How are you celebrating Masturbation Month?

This idea is fascinating. I have been using self-hypnosis and anti-flammation herbs to help me with my problems and it seems to be working. I will think about this, too.

Before I came into orgasmic yoga masturbation was simply a warm up and stress relief now exploratory expression and enlightenment for a dumb redneck I’m liberating inhibitions reaching higher plans of humanity being completely nude as now in front of others masturbating is liberating and a turn on
