Was Girl Boner on Grey’s Anatomy? Orgasm MRIs and High Heels

October 13, 2017

The other day, I was watching “Grey’s Anatomy” (season 14 episode 2) when something piqued my interest and my Girl Boner. A new character, Dr. Carina DeLuca played by Stefania Spampinato, was conducting some steamy research involving—you guessed it—women masturbating their way to orgasm in MRI machines, as I’ve done.

Ah, memories…

But wait, it gets better! (If that’s even possible?)

I’ll spare you the spoilers, but let’s just say there are several specifics I’ve widely written and spoken about on Girl Boner® and Girl Boner Radio. (A few hints: particular sex toys, a particular color, high heels, tumor curiosity…)

I laughed the commonalities off at first. I mean really, what are the chances that a writer or producer at one of the biggest shows on television follows my work? It seemed like a stretch.

But the person watching the show beside me seemed convinced that that’s the case. I’ve since heard from numerous people, strangers and friends, who feel the same way:

Grey’s Anatomy meets Girl Boner!!!

OMG, you’ve been immortalized! (Have I?)

Did Shonda contact you? (SWOON. I wish!)

If a character shows up dressed as a #HeelFree foot with a bunion, I’ll wonder no more… #HeyGreysHireMe

.

So was Girl Boner part of Grey’s Anatomy? And if so, what should I make of that?

If “Grey’s Anatomy” really has gained inspiration from Girl Boner, I’m insanely flattered. I love the show and admire all-things-Shonda Rhimes.

The notion has made me wonder how often that sort of thing happens. I recall when sociologist Amy Cuddy’s research was featured in an episode. Dr. Amelia Shepherd, played by Caterina Reminy Scorson, not only struck a “superhero pose” to boost her confidence, but said: “…a scientific study showed that if you stand in the superhero pose for five minutes before a job interview, presentation or difficulty task, you will not only feel more confident you will perform measurably better.”

Cuddy’s name wasn’t mentioned, but given that her TED Talk is one of the most watched of all time, the link was surely obvious to many. And since they mentioned the study, anyone who wasn’t yet familiar with her work could easily google to learn more about her work.

So I suppose mention of a particular podcast, blog or Girl Boner® creator in the orgasm MRI/high heels episode would have been nice! (Who’m I kidding—that would have been spectacular.) And while they didn’t site any specific research, a nod to Barry Komisaruk, PhD and his team—Nan Wise PhD, Eleni Frangos PhD, Kachina Allen PhD and Wendy Birbano—would have been sweet as well. Though I can see how that might get a wee bit wordy, mid-dialogue.

Whether intentional or not, I love that “Grey’s Anatomy” is shedding worthy light on women’s sexuality, orgasm MRIs and high heel issues. And who knows? Maybe more people are tuning in to Girl Boner than I’ve realized. Or maybe one day it’ll be obvious to the masses that yes, Girl Boner was a part of a “Grey’s Anatomy” episode. Or maybe this is yet another illustration of something I’ve learned many times. Like orgasms, every single person who reads/listens/follows your work counts and could lead to awesomeness you can barely wrap your excitable brain around.

PS Ms. Rhimes, I’m available!

This is such happy news, true or not! But I hope true! You amaze, grrrl! What fun! What necessary subject matter!

Keep it up, Girl Boner Boss. I think the work you’re doing is incredible.

I have never watched the show, but it is on my Netflix list to watch someday.
This may move it up just a bit on the list!
    Thanks,
    Scott

You might love it! I was late to the Grey’s party — started watching last year — and have been a fan ever since.

You should have been listed in the credits! Or at least be given a percentage of the show’s revenue. Like 50% or so. ? Or at the very least the character should have been named August. ?
