“I want others to feel that the stigma of mental illness should not make them feel shamed.” – Suzy Favor Hamilton
Suzy Favor Hamilton is a three-time Olympian for women’s middle distance running, yoga instructor and sought-after public speaker. Her newly released memoir, Fast Girl – A Life Spent Running From Madness, which debuted as a New York Times bestseller, details her battle with bipolar disorder, and how mania controlled and compelled her not only in competition, but in life—eventually leading her to create a second identity as an escort.
Listen as August interviews Suzy about her journey thus far—how she’s found the path to wellness, what she hopes others will learn from her story and more. You’ll also hear from Dr. Megan Fleming, on deciphering between a healthy high sex drive and a hypersexual red flag and how we can best support a partner grappling with mental illness.

Wow!Suzy Favor Hamilton is extraordinary, so open and so honest. Not only is this a powerful book for people with mental illness, her story is an example for everyone. Time and again, Hamilton works through scary and difficult issues. She blames no one including herself but simply relays each experience and what she knows now.Her knowledge about medication, its effects, and her actions as consequences makes for a fascinating listen. No wonder her book is doing so well.
Once again, Dr. Megan provides practical advice. In particular, I enjoy Dr. Megan’s thoughts on mental illness medication. On hypersexuality, she explains how our libido is part of us and not in control of us.
As always, GirlBoner Radio offers an in-depth, serious discussion. Thank you, all.
