“Even in Pakistan, the ideal life is the married life. That’s the goal. I wanted something different. I always wanted my freedom before marriage. I wanted a little bit of time for myself.” — Nadia Ali
Nadia, who is both Pakistani and a practicing Muslim, craved not only freedom, but adventures of a sultry variety. Enticed by work in the sex industry, she became a professional escort, which led into her current career as a successful adult film star. She’s been making waves ever since.
And while her career path means she wouldn’t feel safe stepping into her native country, no amount of “slut” shaming or shunning could keep her from speaking up—not only about her work, but about the damaging effects of sexual repression and the supreme value of embracing our capacity for pleasure.
I had the chance to sit down and chat with Nadia last week, and had a blast exploring her career, surrounding controversies, her thoughts on “slut”-shaming, what she wishes all women knew about sexual pleasure and more. You’ll also learn about feminist porn, thanks to a listener’s question, with fab insight from Dr. Megan Fleming.
